Search dialog showing the search input and channel results

Results are grouped into three categories.

Channels shows all non-archived channels in your workspace. Each result displays the channel name with a hash (#) icon.

Direct Messages shows all non-archived DMs. Each result displays the conversation title with a message icon. You can also find a DM by typing a participant's name or email.

People shows workspace members, excluding yourself. Each result displays the person's name and email with a people icon. Selecting a person opens an existing DM or creates a new one.

Search for a Conversation

Type in the search field and results filter in real time using fuzzy matching. The placeholder text reads "Search channels, DMs, and people...". If nothing matches, the dialog shows "No results found."

Tip

Search is the fastest way to switch between conversations. Build the habit of pressing Cmd+K or Ctrl+K instead of scrolling through the sidebar.

Select a Result

Click a result or use the arrow keys to navigate and Enter to select. The dialog closes and navigates to the selected conversation.

If you select a person and no DM exists yet, a new DM is created automatically.

Limitations

Search covers conversation names and workspace members only. It does not search message content, files, or task titles. To find a specific message, scroll through the relevant channel instead.
