Specialist Builder Overview

Info

The builder route requires a draft setup state. See Specialists for current marketplace and specialist detail screenshots.

The specialist builder lets you create custom AI specialists for your workspace. Use it when the marketplace does not already have the exact role, domain knowledge, tools, or behavior your team needs.

Start a Specialist Draft

Open Specialists from the app rail, then start a new specialist. The builder starts with a template-selection flow where you can choose a recommended template or begin from a blank draft.

Templates help you start with a useful role and structure. A blank draft is better when you already know exactly what you want to build.

Builder Flow

A custom specialist usually moves through these stages:

  1. Choose a starting point. Pick a template or start blank.
  2. Describe the specialist. Give it a name, role, purpose, and audience.
  3. Configure behavior. Define how it should respond and what it should prioritize.
  4. Attach knowledge. Add files, links, or other sources it should use.
  5. Choose tools and skills. Decide what the specialist is allowed to call.
  6. Test and refine. Use the builder chat to check whether the specialist behaves as expected.
  7. Review and publish. Publish when it is ready for personal or workspace use.

Builder Areas

The current builder organizes specialist configuration into areas such as:

  • Persona for identity, purpose, audience, and style.
  • Tasks & Workflows for the work the specialist should handle.
  • Knowledge for grounding sources.
  • Tooling for built-in tools and integrations.
  • Skills for reusable capabilities the specialist can use.
  • Benchmarks for quality checks.
  • Review for final setup before publishing.

For more detail, see Builder Details.

Testing the Specialist

Use the builder's chat experience to test the draft before publishing. Ask realistic questions and check whether the specialist follows its role, uses the right context, and gives useful answers.

If a response is not right, refine the persona, tasks, knowledge, tools, or skills before testing again.

Publishing

Publish the specialist when it is ready to use. Depending on your permissions and the current builder state, you can publish for yourself or make the specialist available to the workspace.
